Face Lift

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and it usually takes 3 to 5 hours. It’s a rather delicate procedure that involves the removal of excess skin, muscles tightening and redraping of the tissues in order to lift sagging facial tissues and give them a more youthful appearance. The holes resulting from the stitches will be removed after about 10 days and in most cases scars will remain which can easily be hidden behind ears or in hairline and they fade with time. Sometimes there might be need for secondary correction because different parts of face were operated on simultaneously.
Who needs this? How old should you be?
People over 45 years of age who have sagging cheeks, loose neck skin or double chin may benefit from this type of surgery. However younger people who have inherited sagging tissues from their parents, may also opt for this type of surgery as a preventive measure.
What is the recuperation period?
You will be able to return to work after about 10 days and your everyday activities after about one month. Bruising and swelling usually disappear in 3-4 weeks time but it might take up to 3 months before you can see the final aspect of your face lift result because some parts of face may heal at a different speed. You should start using cream that contain a component called Silicone immediately after the surgery in order to help healing process and avoid scars formation (that’s why you should never pick or scratch newly healed skin). If there are no complications you can fly back home from the day of surgery.
Is it painful?
When anesthesia kicks in you won’t feel a thing, but after that you might have some discomfort for about a week because of the tightness on your face and swelling as well as bruising which is caused by bleeding under skin. You can take painkillers for this or we suggest trying herbal supplements containing Arnica which speed up healing process and reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. Please ask our staff if you wish to use them during recuperation period. They can also help with providing proper garments and compression bandages for your face and neck so scars will heal nicely without leaving any marks behind.
Can I combine this procedure with other anti-aging treatments?
Yes, certainly. It actually enhances the effects of other anti-aging treatments that you have been using before and after your surgery. Just remember to inform your decision’s based mainly on results that you wish to achieve and consult a physician about the medical procedures suggested to you. Vaseline, for instance, is a great chapstick that can prevent scar formation as well as accelerate face lift healing process.
Start using it immediately after the surgery together with 48hr Silicone gel from pharmacy or skin care range recommended by your surgeon. We also suggest using our own purifying scrub as soon as possible in order to clean scar area from dead cells and regenerate skin better. Only those products can be used during first 15 days after facial surgery – after that you may use any face care products from your current skin care range.
This surgery is a particularly delicate one and you should be careful not to do anything that would make scars worse or prolong their healing process. It’s also very important to monitor the area around the eyes because thin skin in this area might lose its natural shape and create wavy lines due to excessive scar tissue formation. If it happens, we recommend using injectable fillers such as Juvederm or Radiesse which can soften these wrinkles but only if there are no signs of infection present on the eye lids’ surface.
